Flying Scotsman returned to the East Coast Main Line, an electrified line, in February after a 10-year, £4.2million refurbishment by the National Railway Museum. Its inaugural journey from London King’s Cross to York was greeted by thousands of people lining the route.

It is touring the UK throughout the summer, which started on Tuesday when it made a return journey from York to Newcastle, before today's one-way trip from York to Edinburgh.

The steam train passed through Morpeth around 6.30pm then Alnmouth at 6.45pm and Belford about 20 minutes later followed by Berwick.
