EUROPE: Britain never been alone
I would like to counter a point made in a letter that stated that Britain '˜stood alone against the German invasion' in 1941, (Northumberland Gazette, March 17).
Britain was partnered by many countries at that time and we must never forget that 87,000 Indians lost their lives fighting with Britain, 50,000 Australians and New Zealanders, 42,000 Canadians, as well as many thousands from the Caribbean and parts of Africa; a successful multi-national, multi-cultural force.
Britain was never alone and has always shown great strength when working co-operatively with other nationalities and other countries.
Alone is not the place to be.
