More than 60 children will be presented with a new red squirrel adventure story book at its launch tomorrow.
The children from The Duke’s Middle School in Alnwick will each receive a complimentary copy of The Adventures of Rusty Redcoat, Volume Two signed by author Ernie Gordon during the launch at the Town Hall in Alnwick Market Place.
The 171-page book, packed full of exciting tales of Rusty and his pals, will also be on sale to the public for £3.50 at the launch which takes place from 9am to 5pm.
Campaigning conservationist Ernie, 81, said: “The book contains the very important message that red squirrels are in great danger of being infected by a deadly virus carried by grey squirrels .
“And now there is a very real threat that the flourishing population of red squirrels in Scotland will be likewise badly affected as the disease-ridden greys continue their relentless march north through Cumbria and Northumberland.”
Ernie has written to the Prince of Wales, who is patron of the Red Squirrel Survival Trust, in the hope of getting royal support for his campaign.
A second book event will be held at the Town Hall in Alnwick on Saturday, December 20.
Copies will be on sale in Alnwick Post Office and through the website www.rustyredcoat.com
