The county’s Labour administration is calling for the release of a Government report on the effect of windfarms on the rural economy.
A national newspaper this week reported that the Department of Energy and Climate Change – run by Lib Dem Ed Davey – wants to stop Owen Paterson, the Conservative Environment Secretary, publishing a major report that he has commissioned on renewable energy and the rural economy.
A Northumberland Labour group spokesman said that they were calling on MPs Sir Alan Beith and Guy Opperman to push for an urgent publication of the report as soon as it is available.
“While we know the Coalition is split on the future use of onshore windfarms and its energy policy is fast coming apart at the seams, it’s not acceptable to put their own narrow party-political positions before the needs of our communities,” he added.
