The EV charging network Engenie have installed two rapid chargers to meet increasing demand from local and visiting low-emission drivers.

The chargers are simple to use as they accept contactless bank cards and do not require any sort of membership or account.

Powered by 100 per cent renewable energy, the two 50kw chargers can deliver 80 miles of charge in around 30 minutes (depending on the car and battery).

They are compatible with all electric vehicles currently on the road, with two rapid (DC) connectors and a slower connection (AC) socket on the side for those wishing to stay a bit longer at the retail park.

Anthony Cape, asset manager with Northumberland Estates, said: “As a company we are keen to do our bit towards reducing emissions and contribute towards the electrical vehicle revolution.

“Alongside other measures such as renewable energy opportunities and large scale tree planting project; company policy looks at opportunities to include EV charging points in our developments where possible, beyond minimum planning requirements.

“EV charging is also proposed on another retail development in south Northumberland and is included as a part of the Estate owned Northumberland Park Retail Park on North Tyneside.”

Operators Engenie provides a network of chargers UK-wide across retail, town centre and major road locations, driven by partnerships such as this one with Northumberland Estates, as well as with Marston’s, councils and other retail landlords.
