Help and funding to plant trees: How you can be involved in building a green canopy for Northumberland

The Great Northumberland Forest is an ambitious plan to plant millions of trees creating more wooded landscapes across the county by 2030.

Calling landowners, farmers, agents and managers – support to help you plant more woodlands for a sustainable future.

The call has gone out to all landowners, managers, agents and farmers to help make ambitious forest plans a reality.

But they will not be alone – expert advisors are on hand to help anyone apply for grants for more tree cover on their land and support them all the way with the planning and planting process.

But this is more than just a tree-planting scheme, the aim is to create diverse, sustainable and extensive wooded landscapes – planting the right trees, in the right place to benefit everyone. It’s a win-win for the environment and landowners as more trees can improve land by helping to increase biodiversity, shelter for livestock and flood mitigation.

This isn’t just about greenery, it's a commitment to addressing some of the most critical challenges facing our society today: climate change, biodiversity decline, and the  need for a robust and sustainable community and economy.

Tailored woodland solutions

What makes The Great Northumberland Forest truly exceptional is its adaptability. Slow-growing native woodlands will become sanctuaries for treasured wildlife, while faster-growing, highly productive woodlands will serve as vital carbon sinks and sources of timber. From the rural heartlands to coastal havens, industrial town fringes to remote uplands, this project aims to unite Northumberland under a shared canopy.
