Seven-year-old Rayer Waddell and her brothers Daine, 13, and Sam, 15, uncovered the mystery object while walking at Cambois beach, near Blyth.
They comb the beach every day to pick up plastic, fishing wires and debris but were stunned at what they found at the low water mark.

"I began to clear the sand around this object and realised it must of been hidden for many years as it was never seen by my mother who also walked this stretch of beach for over 40 years."
They returned the following day to clear more sand and stones from it to try and see what it was.
“It looks like huge door stops hinges or statues are at one end and a large hinge object is down one side,” said Rayer’s mum, Tracy.

The family think the object may have been uncovered after recent storms carried sand out to sea.
They have now appealed for experts to help identify what it is.
“We just don’t want it covered again and forgotten about as we believe it holds a secret from the past, maybe a very long time ago,” said Rayer.
