It comes after dolphins and a humpback whale were spotted swimming in the area last week, in what was described as an experience of “pure bliss”.

According to the Sea Watch Foundation the humpback whale is a “scarce species” in the North East, but the number of sightings has increased in 2019 and 2020.

The Coast Guard has confirmed they are aware of an object, believed to be a whale, floating in the sea off the Northumberland Coast.

If you spot a deceased whale ashore, contact the CSIP on 0800 6520333, who can investigate the reasons for its death.

Lockdown Restrictions are still in place. Under Government guidelines people should not be travelling outside of their local area and should stay local for their daily exercise.
