Starling murmurations may be a thing of beauty to watch but a Belford resident has complained about the resulting mess.

The concerns of an unnamed resident at Crofters Court were brought to the attention of Belford Parish Council members by Coun Julian Cunningham.

“The resident is complaining about the mess from the starling murmurations,” he reported.

“Their cars, houses, bins and anything outside is covered in mess and it’s unhygienic.

“They say they are not anti-birds but it’s become a health problem to them.”

The resident says the birds are roosting at the back of Crofters Court and asked if anything could be done to cut back the hedge and trees to solve the problem.

Councillors were unsure who the land in question belongs to.

Coun Cunningham said: “Even if it was council land there’s nothing you can do about it while the birds are nesting anyway.”

The meeting was told further inquiries will be made.
