England’s most northerly pub reopens after £250k investment

The most northerly pub in England has reopened following a £250,000 investment.

The Meadow House, on the northern outskirts of Berwick, is less than two miles from the Scottish border.

Mayor of Berwick Brian Douglas officially reopened the venue following the renovation by pub owners, Punch.

Works included a complete external decoration including new lighting and signage. The existing beer garden has also been improved to create anoutdoor space to be enjoyed on sunny days.

The interior has been completely overhauled to create a more open environment with new seating and soft furnishing throughout.

The pub will be operated by new publicans, Marc McDonald and Ashley James, who brought a wealth of experience and a real passion for the Great British pub.

Marc said: “We are excited to be reopening following the investment. The pub looks great and will help us to bring this much-loved pub back to life.

“We have lots of exciting plans to ensure the Meadow House becomes the central hub of the community and we cannot wait to welcome back customers old and new to really enjoy their time with us in their local pub.”

The pub will serve food every day, boasting a menu full of classics that cater for everyone, with a wide range of drinks available and even a specially designated ‘doggy station’.

Punch managing director Andy Spencer said: “This is a significant investment by Punch in a much-loved community pub and we are extremely pleased with the new look created here.

“With publicans Marc and Ashley at the helm, we are confident that the Meadow House will continue to operate at the very heart of the community it serves.”

To really bring a community feel back to the pub, Marc and Ashley plan to host regular entertainment from live music to pub quizzes.
