Both of Amble's lifeboats and the coastguard were called to Alnmouth beach early this morning after reports of a possible person in the water.
A spokesman for the station said that both Amble Lifeboat and Amble ILB were launched just after 5am this morning after receiving reports of someone in the water near Alnmouth
"As the boats made best speed by sea, our colleagues at Amble Coastguard arrived just ahead of us and were able to confirm that the person was safely ashore and in the hands of the North East Ambulance Service," he said.
"With that news, all units were stood down to return to station, and their families, to hopefully enjoy a peaceful Christmas Day."
The event this morning is very similar to a search that took place near coastal village on Christmas day last year when a man's clothes were found in a pile near the River Aln.
