Emergency services rushed to scene of a reported plane crash at Druridge Bay this afternoon to find a two-seater aircraft upside down.

It appears the plane had been trying to take off on a grassed airstrip at the Northumberland beauty spot when it flipped onto its nose and then its back.

Several police cars and fire appliances from all over the county made their way to Druridge Bay after the call was made by a member of the public at 4.43pm and the police helicopter was also diverted to the scene.

But crews were quickly stood down once the extent of the crash had been assessed.

No one was injured in the incident and the plane was righted.
