Air ambulance helicopter lands on Bamburgh Castle green and flies patient to hospital

A patient was airlifted to hospital from Bamburgh on Sunday.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service’s critical care team was activated at 11.18am to reports of a medical incident.

The helicopter, with a paramedic and doctor on board, arrived on scene at 11.44am and landed on the village green next to the castle.

Its team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assess and treat a patient before airlifting them to hospital.

A NEAS spokesperson said: "We received a call at 10.48am yesterday (Sunday 6 October) morning to reports of a medical incident at a private address in Bamburgh. We dispatched two ambulance crews and requested the support of our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS). One patient was taken by air to hospital for further treatment."
