Embleton WI met in Creighton Hall for a September meeting celebrating its 98th birthday.

Members of neighbouring WIs in the Lindisfarne Group were guests for the afternoon. Embleton president Mrs Norma Ham welcomed everyone before the singing of Jerusalem.

Norma introduced the Best of Feckle, a talented couple who specialise in Northumbrian songs and stories.

The hall was full of laughter and enjoyment as the audience joined in with Geordie songs and waited for the punch lines of stories and jokes.

A much deserved vote of thanks was given to the entertainers by Joan Littler.

A splendid afternoon tea, including birthday cake, prepared by Embleton members and friends, gave everyone a chance to relax and catch up with friends.

At the end of tea Mrs Jackie Wyllie was introduced to update everyone on plans to celebrate the centenary of Northumberland WI in 2018. As well as being 100 years for the county, 2018 will also be the landmark for Alnmouth, Bamburgh, Eglingham, Embleton, Howick, Longhoughton and Boulmer WIs.

With the departure of a very happy group of visitors, Embleton members held their business meeting. Arrangements were made for the group meeting in Beadnell and the October annual meeting. Forthcoming county events were discussed.

The competition results for Something I have made: 1 Judith Hazelhurst; 2 Joan Little; 3 Judith Hall.
