A birthday band
Members of Embleton WI played host to the county chairman and members of the Lindisfarne group of WIs at Creighton Hall for their 97th birthday celebration.
Vice president Lady Craft welcomed the guests before introducing the Mis-Spent Ukes, musicians whose main instrument, the ukulele, was added to by other instruments and vocalists. Within the group, a small Attic Band performed some of their own speciality pieces.
The band played a wide range of popular songs, which had the audience signing along, and many members were on their feet dancing.
A vote of thanks was given by Lady Craft.
The next item on the agenda was an excellent afternoon tea laid on by the Embleton members. This gave everyone a chance to catch up with friends from other institutes.
Competition winners for a greeting card: 1 N Ham; 2 J Hazlehurst; 3 J Littler. Raffle prices included table decorations made by the secretary Mrs L Harrett, which were much desired.
Embleton members were able to plan future events after a very successful afternoon.
Several members travelled to Craster two days later to join in the celebration of 100 years of the WI in Great Britain. Everybody met at the harbour to sing Jerusalem before refreshments and more singing in the village hall.
A Lindisfarne group meeting at Howick is to be another event where there will be celebrations of the big occasion.
