Annual round-up

Members of Embleton WI met in the Creighton Hall for their annual meeting on a sunny October afternoon.

The president Mrs N Ham, welcomed the County WI adviser, Miss B Houlison, who was accompanied by a trainee adviser, Mrs A Dixon.

Following Jerusalem it was down to business.

Members had enjoyed special events at Craster, Howick and Bamburgh.

Future events were planned and details given of the WI-supported Coins for Friendship scheme, which funds special projects in many parts of the world for the needy.

The business of the AGM commenced with a report of the varied activities of Embleton WI through the year by the secretary Lizzie Harratt, followed by a short report from the president, thanking members for their support through the year.

The awards for the Competition Cup were announced: 1 Mrs L Harris; 2 Miss J Littler; joint 3 Mrs J Hazlehurst and Mrs J Laidler.

The WIA addressed the meeting, giving details of events past and present of the centenary year and of her visit to Denman College.

A new WI project, Clean up for the Queen in her birthday year, and backed by Keep Britain Tidy, is taking place in March.

Members were also told of a charity My New Hair, where hairdressers are assisting in the use of wigs after medical problems. She also spoke of her current work on the proposed set up of a new WI group in the area.

The election of the president for 2016 resulted in the unanimous selection of Norma Ham.

Thanks and a gift were given to the WIA by Norma. A vote of thanks to the committee for their work was given by Mrs M Hewitson. Everyone then continued to enjoy the afternoon with tea and biscuits.

The raffle was won by Mrs Ham and birthday cards given to Mrs M Hewitson, Mrs L Harratt and Mrs A Jones.

The competition winners for the theme autumn were: 1 Mrs L Harris; 2 Mrs J Hazlehurst; 3 Mrs J Little.
