Members of Embleton WI met for their November meeting to discuss plans for a busy pre-Christmas period, making arrangements for visits to Hexham Abbey and Heighley Gate Garden Centre.
The dominoes team, having beaten Bamburgh WI, were preparing for a visit to Lesbury and a quiz team are ready to do battle again for another year.
Business over, the president Lady Craft welcomed guests from Longhoughton and Boulmer WI and other local friends to hear some of the secrets of preparing edible gifts for Christmas.
Joan Little introduced the speaker Pat Tulip, well known not only in WI circles for her culinary skills.
Taste buds were activated as Pat demonstrated the preparation of prunes in cognac, cranberry/apple/port sauce, chocolate truffles, stuffed prunes and many variations on those recipes.
Packaging of presents is very important and Pat showed ways of making one’s own inexpensive boxes and other containers by recycling trade packages.
Lady Craft thanked the speaker and hoped everyone would try their hands at making some of the tasty confections.
Tea and biscuits were enjoyed by all over many friendly catch-up chats between members and guests.
The competition, a pretty parcel, was judged by the speaker. The winners were 1 Lady Craft, 2 Mrs L Harris, 3 Miss J Littler. Raffle prizes were won by Mrs L Harratt and Mrs L Harris.
