President Norma Ham welcomed members and guests from Bamburgh, Beadnell, Craster and North Sunderland and Seahouses institutes.

The entertainment for the afternoon, Fiddlezonly, was introduced by Joan Littler.

This group of nine musicians, who meet at Newton-on-the-Moor, have been playing together for about eight years.

The members come from all parts of the county, ranging from Seahouses to Longhorsley.

After an introduction to all the musicians, the WI members were able to sit back and relax, with some foot-tapping to a miscellany of music from the Shetlands, Ireland, Canada and Rothbury.

One piece, entitled Northumberland, written in 2013 by a Yorkshire man, illustrated the impression the county gives to visitors.

A series of horn pipes concluded the main programme, before a stirring rendition of Happy Birthday.

A vote of thanks to Fiddlezonly was given by Marjorie Hopper.

After the music everyone was ready for afternoon tea and a chance to chat with the visitors and musicians, which was enjoyed by everyone.

A vote of thanks to Embleton WI was given by the visiting WIs.

With the departure of guests and the completion of kitchen duties, it was time for the Embleton members to conduct their business meeting.

Arrangements were made for forthcoming dominoes and quiz teams.

Future county events included the Pledge Auction and the Hexham Abbey service in December. An invitation was received from Amble WI, and members had enjoyed a visit to a Longhoughton WI to hear a talk on murder.

Competition winners for an object ‘H’ were: 1 Norma Ham; 2 Joyce Laidler; 3 Marjorie Hopper.
