Embleton WI, Meeting

Members of Embleton WI met in the Parish Room for their March meeting glad to have hopefully seen the last of the Beast of the East.

The meeting opened with Jerusalem before President Joan Little introduced Graeme Ambrose, from Horncliffe, for a talk and demonstration on woodturning.

Becoming a joiner at an early age he moved to Northumberland eight years ago and since then has built up a business producing many diverse pieces or woodwork and giving many demonstrations including the WI circuit on his programme.

Known as the ‘Acorn Man’ for his distinctive trade symbol, Graeme demonstrated the production of various items including the acorn.

A very extensive selection of chisels, collected like ladies collect shoes, form his very large tool chest were shown to members while explaining their different uses.

After a vote of thanks by Lynne Harris members were able to view many examples of the woodwork.

Tea and biscuits were served before it was time for the business meeting. A satisfactory financial statement was given by Mille Emmerson. Correspondence from county included the annual report and details of centenary events. Arrangements were made for the Shilbottle quiz and for an Embleton coffee morning on April 7.

The competition winners for an object ‘O’ were: 1 Jean Lawrence; 2 Judith Hall; 3 Adeline Jones. Raffle winners were: Judith Hall and Alma Hennesey.
