At an early age she wrote of her ambition to become a vet and had achieved this by graduating from Edinburgh University.

Combining work with bringing up a young family presents many challenges, but her small animal veterinary work obviously brings her childhood dreams to fruition.

Topics discussed included the increasing costs of animal care, pet insurance, problems with breeding, and exotic pets.

After many questions, a vote of thanks was given by Barbara Thornton.

Following tea and biscuits, members conducted their business meeting.

Reports were given of Peggy’s party and a visit by four members to Seahouses and North Sunderland WI Queen’s birthday party, an event much enjoyed by everyone.

Forthcoming events, including the July meeting and the group meeting in September, were discussed, together with future county events.

A satisfactory financial statement was given by the treasurer.

Competition winners for an animal birthday card were: 1 Joyce Laidler; 2 Joan Littler; 3 Lynne Harris.

The raffle was won by Carole Robson.
