Members of Embleton Women’s Institute held their pre-Christmas meeting in the parish rooms.
President Norma Ham and secretary Lizzie Harrett went through business matters, including voting for the resolutions to be forwarded to the national annual meeting in June. A financial statement was given by treasurer Lynn Harris, and a report on the centenary service at Hexham Abbey, which several members attended, was given by Joan Littler. Business completed, members were served mulled wine and mince pies.
In the past year, the institute’s membership has been boosted by new ladies, so, to the strain of a song from The King and I, all members gave a brief history of their lives, revealing many interesting anecdotes.
Vice-president Lady Anne Craft organised a baby photo competition, most members having searched out a happy snap. The winner, with the most discerning eye, was Adeline Jones.
The winners of the monthly competition for homemade shortbread were: 1 A Craft, 2 J Laidler, 3 J Lawrence.
Raffle prizes were won by C Robson and J Little.
After a cup of tea, members left, having made a happy start to their Christmas festivities.
