FOOD AND FLOWERS: Embleton WI opened their April meeting to visitors to enjoy a demonstration of flowers and cookery by Mary and Elizabeth Davidson, the popular speakers at many local venues.
While Mary cooked a European chicken dish using saffron, her sister kept everyone entertained talking about their adventures both at demonstrations and while on holiday.
The cooking under way, Elizabeth began to show us her special techniques of flower arranging using many home-grown plants in her displays.
With the emphasis on spring flowers many hints on the handling of flowers were passed on to the audience.
The chicken dish nearing completion Mary then prepared a white chocolate parfait which required freezing but in the manner of all good TV cooks she had prepared some earlier for sampling.
The demonstration completed, the chicken lemon parfait and macaroons were sampled by the audience members.
A vote of thanks to the speakers, which included birthday greetings to Elizabeth, was given by the president, Lady Craft.
Tea and biscuits for all gave an opportunity to discuss the demonstration and match up with the local news.
The floral arrangements were included in the monthly raffle, the winners being equally divided between members and visitors.
The competition which was for a favourite family housewives’ tip was judged by Mary and Elizabeth, the winners: 1 Dr A Brown, 2 Mrs L Harris, 3 Miss J Littler.
The members of the Institute held a short business meeting at the end of a very pleasant afternoon.
