Members of Embleton WI, including three newcomers, joined together to greet a new year of events at the Creighton Hall, on a cold January afternoon, where they were soon to be transported to a desert island.
Lady Craft introduced the speaker Stuart Walton, whose medical career at home and abroad was to give members a very interesting journey, and at the same time illustrated how difficult the choice of eight favourite discs is, especially when one has a wide range of musical tastes.
The illustrated talk took members through the rock and roll years, the blues, folk, ballet and featured well known groups such as the Crickets, Beatles and the Four Tops.
Hopefully when rescued from the island Stuart will be able to accompany some of the artists with his freshly acquired musical talent courtesy of his chosen luxury.
Stuart was thanked on behalf of the members by Mrs M Emmerson, before he judged the members’ competition for my favourite piece of music and why, the winners: 1 Mrs a Jones; 2 Miss J Littler; 3 Mrs J Little. The raffle winner was Mrs L Harrett.
After tea and biscuits it was down to the business meeting led by the president, Mrs N Ham.
Votes for the national AGM resolutions were collected from members and future county events discussed.
Arrangements were finalised for the February meeting on the Elderberries of Alnwick Garden.
The meeting closed, no doubt with members leaving with music from their past buzzing around their heads.
