Elderly man dies after collapsing in Rothbury town centre

An elderly man has sadly died after collapsing in Rothbury town centre.

Emergency services were called to Front Street around 10am but were unable to save him.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 9.55am to a patient that had collapsed and became unconscious on the Front Street in Rothbury.

"CPR was in progress on scene and we dispatched two double crewed ambulances, a specialist paramedic and a clinical care manager.”

A Northumbria Police spokesperson added: “At 10.05am we were alerted by the ambulance service to a man who was suffering a medical episode on Front Street, Rothbury.

“Emergency services attended the scene but sadly the man – in his 80s - was confirmed as deceased. His next of kin have been informed.

“There was no third party involvement and a report will be made for the coroner.”
