Elderly homes plan remains
at ‘early stages’

Wooler Parish Council has received an update on consultations with housing group Four Housing over the provision of homes for the elderly.

The letter, from group operations director Dawn Keightley, was a reply to a request that the Horsdonside site be redeveloped ‘solely for older persons’.

‘We are still in the early stages of planning for the future development of our site’, the letter read.

‘As part of our consultation we will engage with the wider community.

‘The parish council will be a key stakeholder in that consultation process and we will give your preferences strong consideration.

‘As with all other registered providers any new accommodation will be informed by the view of the local authority and the local housing needs analysis’.

The letter suggested this may mean the removal of housing for older people.

‘It is not clear’, the letter continued, ‘that this site is the most suitable location for older persons homing in Wooler’.

However, it was conceded that the future need to be planned for, as ‘the Glendale area, and Wooler, is experiencing an ageing population’.

A meeting with Four Housing is being set up with parish councils around the area.
