Year 5 pupils from The Duke’s Middle School in Alnwick got a taste of the world of work last Tuesday when they took part in the launch of Newcastle Building Society’s Boardroom Challenge.
All of the pupils worked in teams to make and market bags and kites which would promote the theme of saving money to adults and children.
The activity leaders were very impressed with the teamwork and organisation skills of all the pupils.
At the end of the session, they all had to present their work and the best efforts were selected by the Alnwick branch manager to be displayed in their office.
The next stage of the competition will see the pupils competing against each other to win £1,000 which will be used to fund a charity event designed to raise money for a minibus for Barndale School.
The finalists will be selected on Tuesday, June 2, and will then go forward to the regional final in Newcastle on Thursday, June 18, where they will compete against seven other schools from the North East.
The previous Friday, staff got more than they bargained for when they volunteered for Splat the Teacher to help raise funds for Comic Relief.
Despite their efforts to stay dry, they all received a soaking – much to the delight of the pupils.
The whole day raised £284.13 – well done to everyone for being involved and to parents too for helping with baking and costumes.
