Rumours that the headteacher of Alnwick’s high school has been put on gardening leave have been refuted by the school’s chairman of governors.

The rumours started spreading on Facebook following the issue of an apology by Maurice Hall, head of the Duchess’s Community High School, after he received a complaint for circulating a ‘political’ flyer about the petition against the post-16 transport cuts via the school email system.

Yesterday afternoon, chairman of governors Lalage Bosanquet told the Gazette it was not true, but would not comment further.

A county council spokesman said: “It would be inappropriate to comment on this matter at this stage.”
