Delighted Alnwick boxer Cyrus Pattinson has won the GB Elite Three Nations 69kg title this afternoon to be crowned the best in Britain at his weight.
The 21-year-old star of the ring was selected to represent England in the event at Magna Centre in Rotherham this weekend, after impressing at the highly-regarded England Boxing Elite ABA Championships in Liverpool last month.
Yesterday, in the semi-final, he beat Kieran Gethin, representing Wales, on a unanimous decision, to earn the right to face Scotland’s Dennis Broadhurst in today’s 69kg category final. Broadhurst had beaten England’s Connor Loftus on a split decision.
He then went on to beat Broadhurst to lift the title.
Cyrus wrote on Facebook: “2015 GB Elite 69kg champion is ... Cyrus Ramone Pattinson, the Tri Nation gold is coming home. Just beat the Scottish ABA champion Dennis Broadhurst and proved why I’m the number 1 in Great Britain. Grateful for all the suffering, disappointment and misfortune as it all came to this. That which starts bitter ends sweet.
“Can’t describe how much it means. Thank you to every body at Birtley, especially Graeme Rutherford, my sponsors Kilfrost, L&A, Docs, Real Fitness for help making it happen and all the support! Been unbelievable yet again!”
