Eco-fair, tree planting and meeting planned to tackle climate change in Alnwick

Alnwick area Friends of the Earth is organising a public meeting, fair and tree planting event.

It is being held at the Duchess’s Community High School on Saturday, February 29.

The aim is to engage with the wider community to educate and raise greater awareness of the climate emergency.

It will also be an opportunity to share ideas and proposals which could be taken to help mitigate the problem.

The provisional plan is to have two main speakers: Guy Shrubsole from the national Friends of the Earth group will talk about a campaign to double tree cover in the UK, focusing on local opportunities; and there will be a representative from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.

Environment-themed poetry or drama by students is also envisaged.Alnwick Town Council has agreed in principle to help fund the event, subject to a meeting of its finance committee on January 12.
