East Chevington Parish Council round-up

Coun Scott Dickinson said part of the problem had been caused by ‘careless use’ in the past.

The work cost in the region of £1,000 and he hopes that a long-term solution has now been achieved.

He told members of East Chevington Parish Council: “We have had an issue with the drainage system for years. There has been a build up of various things, and it has been carelessly used in the past, and the issue came to a head.

“The people have come out, done the work and cleared it out. We managed to find money in the budget (of Hadston House Youth and Community Projects) and we haven’t had any issues since.”

He added that the number of people using the meals on wheels service has increased.

l The parish council has objected to a housing plan for Red Row. The outline application is for a two-storey property and a one-and-a-half-storey unit on land north of Meadow View. The council has concerns about access and that the development would potentially be outside the village boundary.

l The new CCTV system has been installed in Hadston. Coun Scott Dickinson said that the police has already used it to look at footage after an incident. But the meeting heard that the council has heard nothing from letting agent Thrower Stone about helping to pay for the new system.

l A community bus will be running to the Metrocentre to help people who do not have transport do their Christmas shopping. The coach will operate on Sunday, December 4, leaving Hadston at 10am and then Widdrington Station at 10.15am. It is £2 a ticket. To book your place, call Hadston House on 01670 761537.

l The parish council has sponsored Gazette reporter James Willoughby, after he did this year’s Great North Run in aid of The Stephen Carey Fund. The parish council has made a donation of £100 and James, who completed the run in 1:33.05, said he was very grateful.
