Last year, the authority took the decision to close the toilets in the town and others around Northumberland over the winter, with alternative provision via the You’re Welcome scheme.

Subsequently, a market trader made a separate agreement with the county council to ensure the town’s Harbour toilets would stay open on Sundays; but they remain closed from Mondays to Saturdays over the winter period.

On the back of the decision, the town council requested the toilets next to the Tourist Information Centre remain open and at present, a county council operative opens these toilets on weekdays, but has to close them at mid-afternoon when his shift ends.

Volunteers from the town council and Amble Development Trust have been opening and closing the TIC toilets on Saturdays only from the weekend before Christmas until the present date. They are not opened on Sundays as the Harbour Road toilets are open.
