A duck at a north Northumberland nature reserve has proved he is both polite and literate.

In the picture above, an eider duck is waiting outside the gate to Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s Hauxley nature reserve, apparently having seen the sign on the gate that it’s closed, but prepared to wait patiently for it to reopen.

The reserve on Druridge Bay closed to visitors on Tuesday, April 7, and will remain shut until spring 2016.

During the building of the wildlife charity’s new Wildlife Discovery Centre, the entire reserve will be classed as a construction site, so will be closed to all visitors to comply with the guidelines set out by the Health and Safety Executive.
