The Duchess of Northumberland is to join the maiden voyage of a traditional rowing boat after being impresed with the community’s work.
The Alnmouth Skiff was officially launched, as the Pride of Aln, by The Duchess last month, at the old boathouse on the village’s beach, which was given to the area by the then Duke.
After being impressed with the way the community pulled together to launch the project, The Duchess volunteered to join the Pride of Aln’s maiden voyage in March.
The Duchess said: “I am delighted to be taking part in the maiden voyage of the Alnmouth Skiff. I’m sure it will be great fun on the day. I hope the weather will be kind to us.”
And to raise funds for safety equipment for the boat, the Alnmouth Community Skiff team has decided to auction a place on the Duchess’s team for that race.
The highest bidder, who must be over the age of 12, will get a seat on the boat with the Duchess, a commemorative photo, as well as a meal for two at the Red Lion afterwards.
The event is currently scheduled to for Saturday, March 14 on the estuary at Alnmouth, however the date and time are subject to amendment depending on the tide table information which will be confirmed in the New Year.
Bids will be confidential and the winner announced by the Treasurer of Alnmouth Rowing Association in next week’s Northumberland Gazette.
To enter the silent auction to win a seat on the Pride of Aln Skiff alongside the Duchess of Northumberland you need to email a specific bid for a single amount to treasurer@alnmouthrow ing.org
Once your bid has been submitted you will receive a confirmation email containing terms and conditions will be sent, which will offer bidders a one-off chance to withdraw that bid should they not wish to comply with these.
Bids must be made by midnight on Tuesday, December 16 to be in with a chance of winning. The treasurer’s decision is final.
