Dry run for Olympic Torch cops

A BIG police escort has been seen in north Northumberland today as it carries out a practice run for the arrival of the Olympic Torch in June.

Police motorbikes and cars were involved in the exercise which has covered most of the proposed route that the flame will take in Northumberland prior to and after its overnight stay in Alnwick on June 14.

The convoy was seen in Alnwick as well as Bamburgh.

A spokesman for Durham Constabulary, one of the forces involved in the escort, said it is likely that it would be the only exercise of its kind before the Torch’s arrival.
