Druridge Bay is voted as one of the UK's best hidden gems

Druridge Bay Country Park has been voted as one of the nation's best-loved hidden gems, in a campaign led by a major meat-production company.

The search to find the UK’s top beauty hotspots resulted in success for the picturesque Northumberland destination, following a nomination from Newcastle-based Kathryn Hipkins.

The celebration of hidden gems nationwide was a campaign led by Pork Farms to encourage people from all over the UK to submit their favourite lesser well-known hidden hotspots and idyllic treasures. These were then put out to an online public vote.

Kathryn nominated Druridge Bay Country Park – and many people agreed with her choice, as it finished as one of the top three hidden gems in the UK, after the public vote. The other two were Pitstone Windmill in Ivinghoe and The Great Ridge in the Peak District.

Kathryn said: “I am absolutely thrilled that Druridge Bay has made the winning three. Druridge Bay was and remains a very special place to me as I grew up nearby and can still remember how it was years ago.

“Nowadays I get to share my favourite spot with my children and although there are so many little parts to explore at Druridge Bay, the kids especially love the park, strolls along the sandy beach and, of course, feeding the ducks.

“You just can’t beat beautiful, green, wide-open spaces and with picturesque stepping stones by the lake and even the option to surf or canoe along the water, Druridge Bay really is a great location. I am delighted that people of the UK agreed and voted as they did.”

Jude Leitch, director of Northumberland Tourism, added: “We are delighted that Druridge Bay Country Park has been recognised as one of the nation’s favourite areas.

“From secret coves to rare wildlife, Northumberland is full of hidden gems just waiting to be explored and we hope this will inspire people to visit our county and see everything our beautiful coastline has to offer.”

As part of the campaign, Pork Farms teamed up with tourist boards around the country and worked in partnership to promote regional tourism.
