Driver killed in crash in Northumberland this morning

A 28-year-old van driver has been killed in a two-vehicle collision in Northumberland this morning.

At around 7.30am, police received a report of a crash between a van and a HGV on the road between Longhoughton and Denwick. Emergency services attended, but the driver of the van, whose identity has not yet been released by police, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the HGV was uninjured. The Great North Air Ambulance was called to the scene.

The road was closed to allow for officers to deal with the incident and diversions were in place, however, the road reopened earlier this afternoon. Anyone who saw the collision is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 139 13/05/16.
