Drainage works to alleviate decades of flooding at Fallodon Crossing were completed last week.
The scheme included almost 800 metres of new drainage, five new manholes and eight new gully pots with recess bays.
The road from Christon Bank to Brunton was closed for four weeks for the project.
During this time, planned works to the masonry arch bridge at Allansford were brought forward to minimise disruption of a further closure at a later date.
County councillor Kate Cairns, who instigated the project, said: “The flooding of the road has been a long-standing issue.
“Now the drainage is solved, we can resurface this stretch of road, which is in a terrible condition. This is due to take place mid-October.
“I shall be ensuring this is kept to programme so this stretch will at last be smooth as well as safe and passable after so long.”
