Stars of a blockbuster period drama will once again descend on Alnwick – this time to film scenes for the hit show’s final series.
Later this month, the town will provide a backdrop for popular ITV programme Downton Abbey, which features Hugh Bonneville as the Earl of Grantham.
It comes a year after the cast filmed in Alnwick to capture scenes for the fifth season and the 2014 Christmas special.
The Gazette has been told that Alnwick Castle will once again be used for shooting.
A Downton Abbey spokeswoman said: “The Duke and Duchess and the entire town of Alnwick gave us a warm welcome last year and we are looking forward to returning.”
She confirmed that the scenes will form part of series six – the show’s final season – due to be aired in the autumn.
But she could not say which episode they will feature in, what cast members will be in the town nor give details of any other possible filming locations.
