Double defeat for fatigued Alnmouth

Alnmouth’s ambition took a knock as they fell to a disappointing defeat at Longbenton against the league’s bottom side where, despite enjoying the bulk of possession, were rarely able to seriously threaten.

Despite striking the bar during the first period, the home side also seldom looked likely to registereither but two goals in two minutes during the second period set a task to much for Alnmouth although Reece Wright was denied by the bar with a 25 yard effort and Judd Donohoe provided some hope soon after his side conceded, finding the net following Danny Donohoe’s hard and low drive.

Liam Mulligan registered the Seniors first as a ball over the top caught out the visitors back line, while a cross-field ball was finished off by Dan Surley for the second which gave the home side all three points.

A mounting injury list and sheer fatigue from so many fixtures in a short space of time appear to be affecting Alnmouth’s form more than their rivals as they slipped to another surprise defeat to lower placed opposition on Monday evening.

Niall Younger registered the solitary strike from the penalty spot ten minutes from time following a typical forwards tackle in the area.
