Dog sanctuary offers event for microchipping

SHAK, along with Northumberland County Council, will be running the event on Thursday, March 31.

Microchipping will be offered at SHAK’s base at Greenwell Road, Alnwick, from noon to 3pm.

It comes ahead of the April 6 introduction of a new law in England and Wales that all dogs have to be microchipped by eight weeks old and registered to an approved database – or risk a £500 fine.

As part of the microchipping event, people are being encouraged to drop off donations of food, bedding etc, to help the charity. There will also be the chance for people to have a look around and find out more about SHAK.

For nearly a decade, SHAK, which also has a base at a rural location just outside Alnwick, has saved and rehabilitated more than 600 large-breed dogs destined to be destroyed.

To celebrate its 10th year, Support Adoption For Pets has revamped the grants it has available. The launch of the scheme will allow any animal charity that re-homes animals to apply for the £10,000 Award, Transporting Pets Award or the Sponsor a Kennel or Cattery Award.
