“Dog fouling is beyond a joke now in Wooler,” she said. “It seems that people think that now the dark nights are here they don’t have to pick up.”

Residents were urged to report problem areas via the Northumberland County Council website or to email the parish council clerk. However, parish council chairman Mark Mather said: “I think as a parish council we are doing as much as we can but we need to know where the problem areas are so we can feed the information back to the county council.”He pointed out that dog waste bins were already provided around the town and free dog waste bags were available at Alexa’s Animals charity shop.
