Dog club's second world record signed off

The Guinness Book of World Records has confirmed that the 217 pairs of legs used by North Northumberland Dog Training Club were enough to secure it a second official Guinness World Record, following the attempt by several dogs weaving through a human chain of legs at the Northumberland County Show in May last year.

The successful dog was Tilly and her handler is Jacqui Adamson.

Club chairman and senior instructor Jacquie Hall said: “Once again, the members of the dog training club all contributed to this success in some way or other.

“The organisation of 217 volunteers on the day was a feat in itself, but it all highlights the fun we can have with our dogs, if we just make the effort.

“World records have a lot of rules and regulations, but we got there in the end.”

The first world record was set back in 2004 when members of the club ran their dogs through a tunnel of 222 pairs of legs. The record was subsequently broken in the following years by teams from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. But in 2009, the club regained that particular record, running through 1,017 pairs of legs.

Club members and their dogs, who come from as far afield as Berwick and Tyneside to train their dogs, attend many events in the North East doing displays and they are already in training for the 2016 programme, which promises to be very exciting.

The club is based in an indoor arena at Northumberland Canine Centre at West Moor, near Alnwick, which offers training classes in many different canine disciplines and an unrivalled expertise in dealing with problem dogs.
