Brave fund-raisers who dare to bare all can sign up to an annual mass skinny dip, which has collected thousands of pounds for charity over the years.

Registration for the North East Skinny Dip 2017 is now officially open and people are being encouraged to enter the event.

The quirky fund-raiser is staged at Druridge Bay Country Park and this year’s dip will be on Sunday, September 24.

The extravaganza will once again be in aid of MIND – The Mental Health Charity.

Since 2012, hardy dippers have collected more than £25,000 for the cause.

Organiser Jax Higginson said: “We want to strengthen the work of this incredible charity in the hope that one day we may all walk free of our struggles with mental health.

“The North East Skinny Dip is an established and popular annual mass skinny dip that takes place around the autumn equinox on Druridge Bay as the sun rises.

“It is about celebrating life and nature and our own unique physical bodies. It is about taking a risk and embracing a moment of pure joy and freedom.

“And most importantly it is about coming together and supporting each other in this crazy life.”

More than 400 dippers participated last year.

Hardy souls taking part in the 2017 fund-raiser will dip with the rising sun, just before 7am.

Jax said: “At previous events we have been blessed with clear skies and stunning views.

“We will gather post-skinny dip to share our experiences and hold the buzz and fill our cold but happy and oh-so-proud tummies with hot drinks and food.”

The Magic Hat Cafe, which is run by volunteers and operates on a pay-as-you-feel system, will provide dippers with a breakfast barbeque, while the North Shore Coffee will provide hot drinks – on the beach!

Pre-dip on-site camping is available on Saturday, September 23. It costs £7.50 per person. Caravans and campervans are welcome to find a space in the car park.

The North East Skinny Dip is a ticketless event. Registration is £12. To register or for details about camping, visit northeastskinnydip.co.uk
