Dig deep to help victims of Philippines’ typhoon

North Northumberland is stepping in to help people devastated by the typhoon in the Philippines.

Alnwick Lions Club is donating all proceeds from sales from its bookshop on Bondgate Within, and any donations made there, until the end of November to the Philippines Appeal.

Lions Club International Foundation has already given grants of $130,000 for immediate relief following Typhoon Haiyan.

These funds will allow Lions in the Philippines to provide for basic needs, including food, water, clothing and medicine.

Oxfam in Alnwick is raising money for the disaster relief through two raffles, one for a Christmas hamper and the other for a £20 Sainsbury’s gift voucher.

Tickets cost £1 from the shop and the draw takes place on Monday, December 9.

Money from the ticket sales and donations made at the shopfor the crisis are forwarded daily.
