Dick to have final resting place in the village he loved

Richard (Dick) Forman, who lived at Waleric House for more than 50 years, passed away at his care home in Solihull holding hands with his wife of over 60 years, Anne.

Dick, 90, was the son of the Archdeacon of Lindisfarne, TPG Forman, and spent most of his life up until the last couple of years in Northumberland.

He met Anne in the Lake District where he was farming sheep and they married in January, 1953.

They set up home in Northumberland where they farmed for a number of years before he moved to the animal feeds company Levers, where he progressed from sales to management before being made redundant.

In 1969, he took over one of the shops in Alnmouth and made a real success of the grocery and delicatessen business Forman’s of Alnmouth. When the business was sold, he worked part-time for the Lake District-based company Calthwaite until he retired.

Dick’s many roles included church warden at Alnmouth church, a member of the local review committee at Acklington and Castington prisons, chairman of the Burgage Holders of Alnmouth and secretary and then president of Alnmouth and Lesbury Bowling Club.

He was never happier than when he was at home in Alnmouth with Anne surrounded by family and then walking their beloved Norwich and Norfolk terriers on the beach and up Bracken Hill.

Dick leaves Anne, their four children, 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A cremation service took place on May 31, followed by a service of thanksgiving at Knowle Parish Church. The family are planning a further service and interment of Dick’s ashes in Alnmouth.
