A FORMER phone kiosk has been transformed into a tiny visitor centre.
The red phone box was bought from BT for a nominal £1 by Branxton Parish Council, and will help commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Flodden.
Clive Hallam-Baker, chairman of The Remembering Flodden Project charity, said: “As Mallory said about climbing Everest, we converted the kiosk because it was there.
“It has so far cost us only £5 and contains an explanation of the routes the armies took to get to the battle which widens the interest to the thousands of visitors we receive each year.”
This year alone, the battlefield received more than 14,000 visitors.
Clive added that there are proposals for a larger visitor centre in the future, but the converted kiosk will still serve a very useful purpose.
