DEVELOPMENT: Going down wrong road

And Government consultations suggest a need for 707 new homes a year for the entire county until 2026, substantially less than previously proposed.

Quote: ‘We will be able to be more sustainable, which, in turn, should see a more prosperous future for our county.’

So being a little parochial, I challenge the proposals to build about 1,400 new houses in Amble (population 6,000) as being even more ‘oversupply’ and going to swamp the town.

Many other villages and towns have the same sword hanging over them.

The proudly heralded achievement fails to mention that all currently approved and imminent developments will not be altered and will proceed, so, by definition, the developments for Amble, and many other communities, will go ahead even though they will not ‘be sustainable.... or more prosperous for the county’.

We are being led into a nightmare, where doctor appointments, schools, dentists, sewerage, roads and parking are going out of control – but we must keep on down that road.

It’s making me sick.
