Demolition has begun on the former site of the Duchess’s Community High School in Alnwick.
The school opened the doors at its new building at Greensfield in September last year and, since then, the Howling Lane site has been vacant. In October, we reported how vandals had moved in, prompting the county council to put 24-hour security in place and install fencing.
This week, a Northumberland County Council spokesman said: “Demolition work on the site is now under way and is expected to take around 14 weeks.”
In terms of the future of the site, the county council is still looking at options.
