Deferral for bid at school site
Members of the North Northumberland Local Area Council unanimously agreed to defer a decision on plans at a former first school in Amble as they want more information as to why affordable housing can't be provided on site.
The bid is to demolish the derelict St Cuthbert’s RC First School, on Links Road, which closed in 2014, and build six three-bedroom bungalows and seven three-bedroom town houses.
The committee wants more information on why it is proposed to provide a contribution for off-site affordable housing, which would be earmarked for the Amble area.
Coun Steven Bridgett said: “If we can get it on site then that’s great because the developer has to contribute, but off-site is a bit of a get out of jail free card.”
