The deadline for applying for a postal vote is on Tuesday.

If you are not already a postal or proxy voter and would like to give it a try, there are statutory deadlines to which you need to adhere.

For a postal vote, you will need to complete and return your application form by 5pm on Tuesday.

For a proxy vote – where you get someone to vote on your behalf – this deadline is 5pm on Wednesday, May 31.

You can download these application forms from www.yourvotematters.co.uk or alternatively you can contact the council’s electoral service team on 01670 624811 or elections@northumberland.gov.uk giving the full names and address of anyone wanting an application.

Postal vote applications processed after April 28 will be received a couple of days after Tuesday, May 30.

Choosing to vote by post or by proxy saves a trip to the polling station so can be particularly helpful for the elderly and infirm, those living in a remote rural area and for those who may be working or away on polling day.
